extract pictures from spreadsheet with location information

I have a couple of issues, but one that is really getting me.  I have a spreadsheet with pictures inserted in a set of rows with merged cells, and need to be able to identify where on the spreadsheet that an image came from, so that I can associate it with the data that's in the next cell over.  I'm have a bit of an issue being able to identify where the HSSFPictureData is from, and so can't see what data to associate it with.  The spreadsheet can have multiple images on the same sheet, so it's very important that I can make this association.

I'd post the code that I've been working with, but as I mentioned, it hasn't done anything to be able to identify where it came from.  I have been able to successfully port some Java code that helps me to identify the locations of shape placeholders from a sheet, but without being able to identify where the HSSFPictureData objects came from, it doesn't do me a whole lot of good.

Has anyone else tried to cross this bridge or am I the only one?
